It's official! We're part of a new organisation!
As you know, earlier this year, following our AGM, Care Farming UK members agreed with the resolution to dissolve Care Farming UK and to merge with the Federation of City Farms and Community Gardens, to create a brand-new organisation from 1st April 2018. This has now happened and we will be launching the 'new' organisation at our conference in Manchester later this month. In the meantime, although Care Farming UK doesn't officially exist, all our current resources and support (including the Code of Practice) will continue and our Development Coordinators Debbie and Rachel will remain in their posts. (For more information see our 'Frequently Asked Questions' for members which are available here
Our new organisation will support a spectrum of initiatives, of all shapes and sizes, unified by one thing – the use of nature-based activities as a catalyst to transform lives. Care farms, city farms and community gardens can offer individuals with a defined need the opportunity to connect with the land, leading to enormous social, therapeutic and educational benefits. Our new organisation will drive forward the agenda of nature-based activities and become recognised as the leading support for those delivering such services. We are proud to provide a voice for the thousands of gardeners, growers and farmers whose passion, vision and innovation improves the lives of millions of people.
These are exciting times! Our new organisation will be a powerful voice in the nature, health and wellbeing sector. We should all be very proud of the work we have done to get us to this point, from those of you delivering services but also supporters and advocates of care farming. As many of you will be aware, a commitment to support the expansion of care farming was specifically mentioned in the Government’s 25-Year Environment Plan. While we don’t yet know how this will translate in practice, this is a significant recognition of the value of care farming to society.
The transitional Board of Directors will then decide on the new name, which will be unveiled at our conference in Manchester on 24th/25th April 2018.
